Research Engineer (Computer Vision)
Numerati® Partners is hiring a part-time Research Engineer in Computer Vision. This candidate will utilize their skills in computer vision to analyze data modalities such as RGB, RGB-D, and LIDAR, for use-case applications such as 3D reconstruction, surface reconstruction, and depth estimation. The candidate will have knowledge of techniques such as deep learning (convolutional neural networks and their variants, transformer-based architectures for vision) as well a foundational background in established fundamentals of classical techniques for image processing and computer, machine and robot vision. In this role, you will collaborate with scientists and engineers to test and develop computer vision techniques, and develop metrics to analyze their domains of applicability and performance across time and shifting data distributions.
Responsibilities
- Research and engineering of computer vision prototypes which may broadly encompass the areas of 3D reconstruction, image processing, optimization, and deep learning.
- Perform sensitivity analysis and stress testing of models and methodologies to establish their limitations and describe their performance on edge-cases and shifting data distributions.
- Research and develop new metrics to measure the performance of models and establish model continuity through dataset shifts.
- Extract, transform, load (ETL) image data. Develop and maintain an ETL pipeline for computer vision models.
Knowledge & Skills
- The ability to quickly prototype a computer vision model and test and measure its performance, perform root cause analysis and ablation studies.
- The ability to perform statistical tests and evaluate statistical metrics to assess model performance.
- The ability to work and communicate in a team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, optical engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent years of professional experience.
- 3+ years of modern C++ and/or Python experience and a working knowledge of these languages.
- Project experience with computer vision, machine learning, or computer graphics using tensorflow/pytorch.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ years of previous software engineering experience, with prior experience writing productionized code.
- Prior experience developing a consumer-facing API.
- Prior experience writing CUDA kernels.
Compensation
- Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Application
- CV, technical writing sample (preferably solo-authored) and recent transcript are required.
